Combined Cycle Power Plants

A combined-cycle power plant uses both a gas and a steam turbine together to produce up to 50% more electricity from the same fuel than a traditional simple-cycle plant. The waste heat from the gas turbine is routed to the nearby steam turbine, which generates extra power. 

The combined-cycle power plant is relatively more efficient and environmentally friendly. It operates in two stages with an overall efficiency of up to 55%.

Conventional power plant is the general term applied to the production of electrical energy from coal, oil, or natural gas using the intermediary of steam.

The main features of these conventional plants are their low capital cost per kilowatt installed as compared to other plants and virtually no limit on their size.

In a conventional power station, the source of the heat is the energy released by breaking chemical bonds in the process of burning.
